Did you ever write a birthday wish list as a child? I used to start months ahead of time, writing down things I couldn’t live without. I have always loved the anticipation of birthdays, and now love buying presents for others as much as I enjoy receiving them. It is always nice to have a bit of a fuss made of you, though! My 29th birthday is approaching in a few weeks time, and while I have been planning my children’s presents and parties for later this year I haven’t given a lot of thought to my own. My eldest child did decide that because I’m turning 29 I should have 29 presents – I quite like the sound of that, so we will see if he can convince his Dad to take up his idea! He did offer to buy me a chocolate Santa a few days past it’s used by date at the chemist this week, so I think he may need just a little guidance, although the thought was very sweet!
I decided to put together a little wish list of gifts I would be perfectly happy to receive. They’re mainly pretty things I have seen while online window shopping, and have been meaning to share with you. Feel free to pop them on your birthday or Christmas lists as well, if anything tickles your fancy. Anything that comes in a blue box (Tiffany or Swarovski) is eternally welcome!
Scarf Arts (Etsy) – $39.00
As mentioned many times, I have quite a vast selection of scarves. I absolutely love this offering, found on Etsy. It is pure silk, and light weight, making it the perfect scarf to wear in Spring and Summer. My gorgeous sister in law is getting married in late March, and I think it could form part of my wedding outfit.
I love these gorgeous statement earrings from Swarovski. They’re available as a limited edition piece online. The different shades of blue are very striking, and I really like the mix of crystals and plated metal. They look like they could have stepped off the set of The Great Gatsby, but without the Tiffany price tag. Not overly practical with an earring obsessed toddler, but they are beautiful to look at.
I first saw this bag on Instagram a month or so ago. Anizoe is an Sydney-based brand that has funky, on-trend bags that are just a little bit different. I love the vintage feel of the Alexa bag. I can imagine this little lady coming out to high tea, paired with some cute Winter gloves. Make sure you check them out if you’re looking for something a little different.
Things We Never Say – Sheila O’Flanagan
There are not many things better than curling up with a good book, especially in Winter. I’m a big fan of Irish authors like Marian Keyes, Sheila O’Flanagan and Cathy Kelly. I like to read for escapism, and these ladies specialise in taking me into someone else’s life for a little while. Sheila’s new book has just come out, so it is high on my must-read list.
This candle has to be one of the most divine smells my nose has ever had the pleasure of sniffing. I could eat it, it smells that good. I was given a candle for Mother’s Day last year and tried to burn it sparingly so it would last longer. The clever people at Glasshouse have just released Tahaa scented hand cream, which would be a very welcome addition to my handbag!
We are off on a little holiday later this year, to witness my cousin get married. Travel size beauty products are always handy, and the coconut and honey fragrance from Pure Fiji is one I have been meaning to try since having it recommended to me by a friend. The gifts are always beautiful packaged, and make a perfect present.
In reality, I would love a day with my little family, lots of cuddles from my small ones and a nice lunch somewhere in the sunshine. Presents are always lovely and well received, but it’s spending the day with loved ones that have always made birthdays extra special.
How do you celebrate your birthday? Is there anything special on your birthday list for this year?
