What I Wore – A Weekend of Socialising

On the weekend my husband’s soccer club celebrated their season at a presentation night. It’s always an excuse to dress up and have fun with the wives of the other players, who have become my friends. This year it was hard to know what to wear – while my husband’s team normally gets quite dressed up, some people turn up in shorts. I didn’t want to be over dressed, but wanted to use the excuse to get a bit glam. A few hours before you go out is always the perfect time for a wardrobe crisis! I knew Target had lots of dresses, so did a bit of a online window shopping and took myself down there about three hours before we were due at the event. I tried on loads of dresses, but couldn’t find anything suitable. I decided to go back to my original choice, a Cue In The City dress I wore for my 30th birthday dinner, and buy some new shoes and a clutch.

I loved the print on the dress – it has tartan and Dalmatian spots – two things right up my ally! I had planned to wear it with wedge shoes, but they looked too wintery. The wedge sandals above are from Target and you can find a similar style with a stacked heel here. Believe it or not, I have never owned a black clutch. After attending my cousin’s wedding recently where they were in abundance, I decided I needed one. The one I purchased is currently on sale, and had plenty of room for my phone, lip gloss, keys and other bits and pieces. I kept my jewellery simple with my black Thomas Sabo bracelet, Fossil watch and black stud earrings. I love the structure of this dress, and the black panels highlight the waist. It will definitely be an item on high rotation in my wardrobe.

On Sunday we met up with friends for lunch. It was boiling hot, and was definitely sun dress weather. I chose to wear my chambray dress from Target last season. It’s really cute, with a matching tie belt. I often wear it with a tan belt to match my shoes. This time I also added a soft scarf that was tucked into the belt to add a bit of colour to my outfit.

Target have lots of linen dresses on sale at the moment, and they are great for Summer. While I find them a bit of a pain as they crush easily, they fabric is nice and cool and outweighs the crumpled look. The collar makes the dress look a little less casual, which I like.

Do you have a go-to Summer outfit? What did you wear to your last special event?

  1. I have been dying to try out the “belt up your scarf” look! You look fab in both dresses btw. šŸ™‚ My go-to Summer outfit would have to be shorts and t-shirt…not the sloppy kind of way of course! And also dresses, maxis mostly.
